NEWS & INFORMATION Cougars Participate in Big Dog Lineman Challenge 2011 Cougar linemen took part in the Big Dog Lineman Challenge 2011 held at Martinsville High School Tuesday, 14th June 2011 On June 11, a group of Cougar linemen took part in the Big Dog Lineman Challenge 2011 held at Martinsville High School. Linemen from 14 different high schools competed in an assortment of events that tested their agility, strength and ability to work as a team. Some of the events included: bench pressing 185 pounds carrying a weighted bag 50 yards pushing a 90-pound sled 20 yards flipping a tractor tire 20 yards tossing a 10-pound medicine ball running a 20-yard dash carrying a bar with 45-pound weights on each end 50 yards, better known as the “Farmer’s Walk” pushing a fully laden dump truck 50 yards as a five man group The Cougars brought two teams to this year’s challenge.  The members of Team #1 were, Codie Blevins, Kareem Calfee, Rick Cobbs, James King, and Pierce Rigney.  The members of Team #2 were, Chris Belcher, Tyler Golden, Corky Hall, and Cory Zander. Both teams performed well with both finishing in the top ten overall.  Team #1 finished 5th while Team #2 came in 7th place. In the individual events, Kareem Calfee and Pierce Rigney finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the medicine ball toss with tosses of 45 and 44 feet.  In the 3 Cone Drill, Pierce Rigney and Rick Cobbs both tied for 3rd with times of 7.5 seconds.  Rick Cobbs came in 3rd in the Pro Shuttle posting a time of 5.21 seconds and Pierce Rigney tied for 3rd in the 185-pound bench press with 24 reps. The individual events concluded with a sumo challenge where the combatants are given a soft bag and attempt to either knock the other one down or push him out of the circle.  One upperclassman and one underclassman from each team were chosen to participate.  Kareem Calfee was the winner amongst the underclassmen.
